Resignation from SLR Effective 1/1/08
To All My Friends,It is with a great amount of mixed emotion that at this time I announce my formal resignation from SL Reports, a decision which shall become effective on January 1, 2008.
There are a great number of reasons for this final decision, but the primary three are detailed below.
First and foremost, I am no longer able to commit the time required to take care of the business end of SL Reports. I frequently find myself pushing aside very important real-life obligations for the sake of SLR business. I can no longer do this.
Secondly, a lack of recent participation in-world - caused by scheduling and general disinterest - has put me behind where I should ideally be (knowledge-wise and socially) as CEO of any Second Life corporation. I feel the CEO of this company should be able to ideally spend a certain amount of time in world getting to know our readers, keeping up with current events, and connecting with the other movers and shakers in our community.
Thirdly, all reasons and specifically the two I just mentioned have led me to lose the competitive edge and vision I need to lead this company to continued expansion. As I have discussed with Arbitrage on many occasions, SLR is presently at a tipping point of becoming the premiere source for business and financial news related to Second Life. We need a dynamic personality to come in and push us over the edge.
I am posting this announcement for disclosure purposes only. I discussed the details of this decision this morning with my long-time friend, SL Reports Chairman Arbitrage Wise. As of the time this is being posted, we have not started the search for a replacement.
I feel however that I have accomplished a lot in Second Life. I started Second Life with a hope, a dream, and great ambition a year ago. While I struggled in land sales and rentals, my private pet project which I thought would lead nowhere - SL Reports - continued to grow.
We grew quickly to over 10,000 group members before I met Investor Allen, who despite your personal opinion befriended me and provided me with the opportunity to expand. Shortly after the launch of AVIX and our IPO, we established a new web presence and were able to expand our groups to over 15,000 members.
It was through my IPO at AVIX that I became involved in the Second Life financial markets. I met Arbitrage Wise and familiarized myself with JT Financial, which at the time barely had L$50 million on deposit.
I sold my business to Arbitrage and together with him we fought for truth and transparency in the Second Life financial markets... a task which at the time was overwhelming and seemingly impossible.
Our efforts were vindicated as JT Financial eventually purchased AVIX and rebranded it as the SL Capital Exchange. With like-minded investors and Second Life business leaders at our sides, we changed the way the investment community did business with its exchanges, and changed the expectations they held of the CEOs in which they invested.
All the while we reported our progress at SL Reports and interacted with our readers and advertisers.
I worked with Wise Metaverse, JT Financial, and the SL Capital Exchange as Arbitrage brought together the rock-solid staff you see here today... the very capable, friendly, fun, and able-bodied group of miscreants that ensure your safety as a depositor and investor while providing you the service you get nowhere else.
When I stepped aside full-time from the financial world, I found loyal, dedicated SL Reports readers, impressive web traffic, and a solid brand called SL Reports. SL Reports has become a cherished and important Second Life institution that I am proud to have led for so long... all of you there with me.
JT Financial now has over L$82 million on deposit and the exchange is booming. All Wise Metaverse businesses including SL Reports enjoy an ever-expanding in-world brand presence surpassed only by the value and quality of the companies themselves.
There have been bad times and good times, but SLR has continued ascending the mountain. While the SL Reports upward climb is far from finished, I personally have reached my peak. I must now exit this position with the grace and dignity that this organization deserves.
In my stead I hope we will be able to place someone new, someone fresh - someone with the vision and drive to continue where I leave off. I have the utmost confidence.
I regret that at this time I will not be able to firmly commit to a reduced management position with the company. I have promised to continue writing and reporting for SL Reports, and randomly assisting with Wise Metaverse in general, but as of 1/1/08, I will no longer be responsible for shareholder decisions or exchange updates, financial, or any tasks requiring the utilization of a CapEx CEO account. Please be aware that I will assist in making this as smooth of a transition as possible for the selected replacement, but regretfully cannot extend my departure beyond the date I have provided.
There are at present no plans of any form in regard to my personal holdings in SLR - approximately 800,001 shares. I do hope that I will be able to give some or all to my replacement, or retire some or all, depending on input from Arbitrage and other exchange staffers, depending on what we feel will best sustain or increase the current stock price.
I do hope in the future... until I leave and beyond... that the process of half dividend / half buyback and retire... will continue for at least some amount of time to increase the value of SLR shares.
I would also like to assure you that SLR will continue as normal, and will continue its trend of growth and market presence. We've done a damn good job so far and I see no real reason that this would change. As I said, I'll still be around watching... so there's nothing to worry about.
There is no person better than Arbitrage Wise to serve as Chairman of this company, overseeing your investment, I guarantee you. If you feel otherwise, then you by no means need to be investing on this exchange. Arb is a great businessman and I promise he will not let SL Reports down.
We will be accepting applications for the CEO position immediately, and will review and respond to them aside from normal business. If you are interested, please email me or IM me at your next convenience.
I would also like to point out that today is Thanksgiving Day in the United States. I cannot express in words how thankful I am to each investor that has trusted me, confided in me, and befriended me during my stint as SLR CEO. You have meant a great deal to me.
I am especially thankful for several individuals in particular. Arbitrage Wise, Investor Allen, Cocky Dagger, August Rich, Strange Ranger, and Enniv Zarf... all of these people have in some way impacted my experience either in the SL financial world or via SL reports... and beyond that, have impacted my outlook on life. I appreciate you. And everyone else that I cannot directly think of right now... you will always be in my heart.
Thanks for your trust.
