[ hoorenbeek ] » HBK undervalued ?
Re: HBK undervalued ?
Really all depends what they plan on doing with the IPO. If the IPO is gong to be 1$ per share then we are overvalued at ths point. Although I have to say I had a chance to visit their store and it was very nice - slick clothing :)

General Investment Discussion » New Policy Regarding In-World “Banks”
Re: New Policy Regarding In-World “Banks”
I don’t think anyone knows the full extent of the ban yet – we have to wait for the smoke to clear. The Lindens have instituted this ban to limit the negative effect of fraud on SL players in general and to avoid bad media/legal activity from players involved in fraudulent banks.

I think it is clear the ban has been instituted because most banks in SL do not keep sufficient reserves to pay out clients if there is a bank run. While the decision will cause some short term pain – this is a lot better then he continuous cycle of banks closing down with client’s money. Basically banks have been defrauding players of significant amounts of money and of course in SL there are no regulations to stop them. So the Linden decision will be good in the long run to stop this mass scale fraud. Also the door is left open if a real life banking company would like to get involved in SL – as long as they are licensed to do so they should be fine. That way we know they comply with RL standards set forth by the banking industry and if there is fraudulent activity there is a real legal recourse for those defrauded.

General Investment Discussion » Can JT Financial seek an injunction?
Re: Can JT Financial seek an injunction?
I know this is not what peope want to hear now but.....

I cant imagine any court ruling agains the Lindens on this one. LL is the owner of this game and in their term and conditions they clearly state they can make whatever changes whenever. On top of that L$'s are a fictional currency (*cough*)so really any business on SL does not have any monetary value.

We know this is not really the case but......

For me it is just a sad story all around - it is not just 'a few bad apples' there are alot of banks out there who cant honor their commitment.

The problem is as long as Lindens are xchangeable for US dollars in an unregulated economy there are going to be people out there scamming and defrauding people. I thought SL was suposed to be about having fun, creativity, metting people and most importantly getting away from reality! People losing thousands of USD's and and people nvesting paycheques in SL. What hapened to the fun? As long as Lindens are linked to USD there is always going to be this id of stuff happening. Maybe if we had an in world only currency not linked to real dollars we could get back to the business of having a good time in sl :)

General Investment Discussion » One option to keep things very close to the same
Re: One option to keep things very close to the same
Call me crazy - but why is everyone coming up with these crazy schemes? This is a game own by he Lindens and they banned banks. So why not just continue on SLCAPEX exchange as it has been operating.

I do not see how a dividend would fall under linding labs ruling - as long as it is not guarenteed or pre determined. We are all trying to think of ways to get around the rules but to me the thrust of the policy is quite clear. you are not allowed to offer interest in exchange for a deposit.

Personally I think its crazy o start trying to corporate real life companies and designate them charity's ect....

It is a blow to the financial sector no doubt - but we would be better focusing on improving what we have - some good stock exchanges with vibrant and creative CEO's. Lets build on that and move forward........

Re: One option to keep things very close to the same
Well Candence I don’t totally disagree with you. Your right many people do earn a real income from SL and I agree there is a chance to succeed if you have a solid plan. Also right now there are many examples of people who are doing very well with solid business plans.

There are a lot of very talented people in SL running very creative companies - I mentioned in my last post that we should build on this.

However with banking it brings up a different issue. Is it possible for a bank to operate in SL? From all the information I have heard it is not possible. From what I understand a RL bank when taking a deposit must have sufficient ID from that customer to open an account. This goes against everything many people come to SL for - that’s to get away from real life. If the bank does not operate in this matter they would lose their charter and no longer be registered to do business. Again this is only what I have heard but it seems pretty logical.

I also agree with you that Lindens do have an interest in attracting real life business. I think also most ‘residents’ have an interest in dealing with businesses to have a connection to RL because if they are defrauded they have a legal recourse - or at the very least know who is behind the business in RL. I think this would defiantly have a positive impact on confidence in the entire SL economy.

With that being said – still I don’t believe it would be possible for a RL bank to operate in SL. I’m not sure what is going to happen to the exchanges – my gut feeling is they will be able to continue operating – but that’s just a gut feeling. Also there was some talk many months ago about NASDAQ getting involved in SL. It did not materialize – maybe some day though. I suppose we never know what is going to happen in the crazy world of SL – at least we can say there is never a dull moment :)

Regards,

Ivan

Re: Business Plan for L&L Corporation Federal Credit Union
Well it sounds to me like you want to open up a real life bank. If that is the case I wish you all the best and hope you succeed in your venture. The thing I have to ask though is what does this have to do with SL?

The services that you have listed are the same services that we would receive in our local credit union here in Canada. I’m assuming it is the same in the USA and with financial institutions internationally. As for mortgages it may be different in the USA but in Canada every credit union and bank offers mortgages. The problems in the USA was due to companies offering mortgages to people who could not afford them. For the most part credit has tightened up and only people who can afford the loans are getting them.

In any case im sure if you work hard and provide good customer service and market your brand your bank will do fine. Ill watch the business news and keep my eyes open for ya :)

Cheers,

Ivan

Re: Business Plan for L&L Corporation Federal Credit Union
So you plan to open locations around the world and have ATM's and bank cards? Is this feesable with the ammount of investment that you have in SL? Is there a large enough market to support a RL credit union with braches, ATM, bank tellers, overhead and large cash reserves? Do you have the real life investors that is needed to set up such a massive undertaking?

I have a feeling im missing he whole gist of this.......

Im assuming to get a project like this off the gound you would need an initial investment of several million dollars to set up branches, marketing, equiptment, software, security, hiring trained employees, marketing, cash reserves ect ect....

Am I on the right track or am I way off base?
